Saw my first sunset yesterday...

Unfortunately, while I took video of the sunset, my phone software might be a tad ancient because when I tried to send the video to my email, it said the file was too large.  So if that is the case, how do people upload videos that are much longer than one minute.  I guess I will have to go to the shore again in the coming days and take another but shorter video.

The thing that is still quite awesome to me is that once the sun hits the horizon, it's gone within 90 seconds.  I don't know if that is from season to season, but it was absolutely amazing.  There is still that healthy glow from beyond the horizon turning in some orange and red and even some brownish coloring of the sky.  A few days ago, as I was driving home from Saturday evening Mass and continued to drive west, the incredible colors that filled the sky were jaw-dropping.  I know I've seen these things before.  My issue is that most of the time I've been heading home, sunset had already happened.  Maybe I will be able to get better shots once Daylight Savings Time comes in a couple of about 11 days from now.  Yikes.

I found out today that one of my assignments for my class is going to take much more research - not a strong point for me.  Most of you know that I tend to write from the heart, usually after being inspired by a question someone poses or a Bible verse or another experience at Mass, etc.  Research and references are just not my thing.  Pray for me.

One last thing for today.  So far, the three churches I've been to so far have all had long homilies.  Yesterday, I went to the cathedral down here.  The priest was nearly 30 minutes.  Mass began at 10am.  He opened with a few welcomes and an explanation of the readings before the Sign of the Cross.  Then he repeated and expanded on his points in the homily.  A new acquaintance told me after mass (11:24am) that he was late getting there and still heard 10 minutes.  If I ever begin to do that, I beg that someone have the courage to tell me.  Maybe that is normal down here, but I don't plan on it becoming normal for me.  Actually, thinking about it, it really was not a homily.  It was a sermon.  There is a difference because a homily applies the gospel to life.  That's not what he did.

Anyhow, I'm off to Mass now actually.  Different church.  They do daily Mass at 5pm.

  1. Fr. Mike - check the resolution settings on your phone and select a lower resolution and you'll get a smaller file size.

Another option is check if your email account has a file size limitation that is being exceeded. Outlook typically allows up to 20 MB for and internet account and 10 MB for an Exchange account. Google allows up to 25 MG on GMail. You can also copy the file to a Google drive and share it from there.

Alternately, you can plug in a USB / USB C / Micro USB to USB to your laptop and copy the file from your phone to your laptop and email it from your laptop.

If you need technical help, call me.

  2. If you want to do a homily for 30 minutes, it better be good. I'm not one to complain about long homilies and if you knock it out of the park good for you. But a rebellion might occur if it isn't good.
