BTW -- another reunion
Last night, I was invited to a fundraiser for a local fine arts company. A friend of mine was going to perform (he sings) and there were other performers of a wide variety of talents. When I first received the invitation, I noticed a couple of pictures of the other performers, and two of them looked very familiar. When I arrived, I was right. I had not seen those two people in at least 15 years. Their voices were exactly what I expected. They had not lost a step. But that was not the only surprise of the night, two other friends of theirs from their days of performing in musicals also showed up - a couple whose wedding I preached at and the wife's parents were parishioners of mine too. Holy Cow! And the world continues to shrink. All of those performers of my past and present have all known each other for just as long or longer as I have. The concept of six degrees of separation truly applies. You just never know who you are going to run into at any given time, and hopefully those occasions will be in good times.
Consider this. One of those two performers I saw last night after so long is also a second-cousin of other former parishioners. The only reason I know is that at one time I ran into him at an older generation person's wake who was related to my parishioner. It turned out where I ended up celebrating the funeral for that mutual relative.
Stay cool!
